Stay in Berlin – in style

I've been keeping tabs on what sounded like a very cool project for a while: Plus One Berlin, a holiday flat in the hip German capital with a twist. Not only is the apartment extremely well-designed, but it also comes with a well-connected local (from a choice of 28, according to your interests) to show you around all those secret places one only discovers by luck as a long-weekend tourist.

Anyway. So I was looking forward to see how the flat turned out, having got some excellent local shopping tips from Clare Freeman, who's behind the project, for the place I'm helping a friend do up in the city. And it turned out beautiful. See for yourselves...

The studio flat is in Kreuzkölln which, says Clare, is "an exciting and yet still non-touristy neighbourhood", and it costs EUR 120 per night, including tips from your knowledgeable Berliner. Interested in staying there? Check out the Plus One Berlin website.

Meanwhile, check out the design, which was done by Berlin-based duo Paola Bagna of Spamroom and John Paul Coss of CossA. I love all the salvaged wood and tidy use of ply; the result is pared down yet warm. And isn't the pipe lamp ingenious?

Check out Clare's blog, too, for the latest on the flat and what's going on in Berlin. She's at Plus One @ 1
